Interprofessional Education

Welcome to the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center’s (AHC) Interprofessional Education website. Find information regarding our approach to Interprofessional Education (IPE) and how to get involved in opportunities geared toward UC learners, faculty and staff.

Interprofessional learning has become an emergent, crucial topic in the health professions nationally due to evidence that team-based care produces superior patient outcomes.  The AHC IPE Steering Committee was formed in the summer of 2013 to facilitate existing IPE efforts, by removing institutional barriers and to leverage current programming into a more coordinated initiative that touches all our learners.  Our desire is to educate our students so they will be prepared to actively participate and lead Interprofessional teams that deliver care that results in enhanced patient outcomes in contemporary models of health care.

What is Interprofessional Education (IPE)?

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Interprofessional education (IPE) as learning that occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. At the University of Cincinnati we use the term IPE to encompass education, collaborative practice, and research.

For more information on IPE Core Competencies and upcoming national events please visit the Interprofessional Education Collaborative and the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NEXUSIPE).
